Parabens are preservatives ( chemical compounds of para hydroxybenzonic acid ), which are used in beauty products such as soaps, shampoo, conditioners, moisturisers and more to give them a longer shelf life and to kill bacterial growth within the product.

Parabens are known to disrupt hormone function within the body. Studies have shown that some parabens replicate hormone oestrogen within the human cells.
