Agata Kurzawa is an Edinburgh based potter from Poland. Agata is a maker, designer, artist and craftswoman all at the same time. She was initially a student of Interior Design, but soon she realised that drawing up plans for others it's not her cup of tea.
She makes functional tableware using a combination of her favourite clays coated in simply coloured glazes. Her objects are simple - the form is as important as the glaze. She works with quite muted, neutral tones, nothing too colourful. She enjoys natural and organic colours and textures.
Today, her work is all about the texture. She wants to express the beauty of material she works with. To build the texture and depth of tone she uses a broad mix of clays, including reclaimed ones. All her pots are fired in 1240 degrees in an electric kiln.
She makes everything by hand, which means there's a room for difference between each piece. Each object is unique, each cup is a slightly different shape or size or sometimes the colour varies a little. That makes handmade ceramics very special.
She dedicated herself to the pottery in 2016 and since then she can't leave the wheel for more than a few days at a time.
